Tuesday 6th August

common dolphinsBack out on the water today after a couple of windy days. It was still fairly breezy especially this afternoon, however the westerly wind was perfect for sailing offshore. This morning we very quickly found some common dolphins who bowrode with us for nearly an hour as we were sailing in the same direction they wanted to go. It’s such a special experience and one the dolphins should always be allowed to do by choice. That was the first of several dolphin groups we found, followed by harbour porpoises and grey seals at the end of the trip. This afternoon we watched the seals on the island before sailing a long way south and all seemed very quiet. Then a spotted just a couple of gannets some distance back to the east – we sailed that way and found a big group of very sociable dolphins, along with diving gannets and soaring shearwaters. We had a fantastic sail back inshore and also spotted a couple of storm petrels as we sailed. Unfortunately we are still having camera issues, so the photos aren’t the greatest.
