Tuesday 5th August

harbour porpoises

We were back out on the water today. Although Storm Floris wasn’t nearly as bad as it was further north, it was still pretty draughty yesterday which left us with some swell. This morning spotting conditions were tough, leaving us with groups of gannets and grey seals to watch on the low tide. This afternoon it was still breezy but there were more concentrated patches of feeding. Way to the south Duncan’s fancy new binoculars picked up some gannets diving in and with them there were large numbers of harbour porpoises rushing around. A bit further west the same thing was happening, and as we finally reached the shelter of the coast, a last group of porpoises paraded past as we motored up into the northerly wind.
Penzance Sailing Club is hosting the Scorpions Nationals this week, and we had great views of the fleet as they sailed in after their day’s racing.
