Thursday 24th August
There was a lot more northerly wind today which can often push things a long way offshore. The morning four hour trip was quite productive though, with lots of pods of common dolphins spotted along with harbour porpoises, a minke whale and different species of seabirds. On the afternoon three hour things all seemed rather quiet, until we picked up three small groups of dolphins further south – the third of these stayed with us a long time, circling the boat and teasing us by disappearing and appearing again. Close to the coast we found a large group of porpoises feeding under a couple of gannets, and there was a lone male seal hauled out on the island.
