Thursday 21st August
We had an Ocean Discovery followed by two Bay Discovery trips. Dolphins were again spotted on all three trips. Having got some close up fin shots today, some of these individuals were exhibiting some noticeable scars and nicks, especially on the dorsal fins. As more dolphins move into our inshore waters, they are more at risk from boat activity. There are still skippers who accelerate towards them, trying to make them engage with their vessel, and this can be a result.
We also some grey seals hauled out on the rocks, and on the second trip some harbour porpoises. There were some interesting seabirds out there today including a skua (just trying to decide the species), Balearic shearwater, some Mediterranean gulls and terns. There was also a group of kittiwakes on the island, calling out their lovely kittiwake noise.
