Monday 5th June

common dolphins bowriding "Shearwater II"

Back out on the water today after a much needed day off yesterday and we had a good one! We sailed south with this morning’s three hour trip passengers and spotted just a few gannets circling in the distance. Coming down to the area, we were gradually joined by a group of up to thirty common dolphins who swam with us for a few miles as we sailed. Heading back inshore we found a few grey seals hauled out. The wind got up this afternoon making for some exciting sailing. A few miles out there we watched a professional offshore yacht race fly past under full sail – specacular! We found more common dolphins who interacted with us, as well as a lone Risso’s calf – we suspect the adults were nearby. We also saw a single porpoise, and some grey seals.
