Friday 30th October

Dolphin swimming in the ocean with water splashing around.

We had what was most likely our last trip for the public this morning in a choppy south easterly sea. Still very mild though! Because it was breezy, we were able to sail for virtually the whole trip, and because of the adjustments to the jib we made in the spring we have used so much less fuel this season. Good thing too! There were lots of auks around today, both on the water and flying past, along with gannets and kittiwakes. Further to the south we were inspected by a pod of common dolphins as they swam past. They didn’t hang around, but everyone got some good views. Coming back inshore to the island we found a few female seals, both hauled out on the rocks and in the water.
