Friday 19th September

Two people on a boat watching a group of dolphins swimming in the ocean.

Though grey and choppy, conditions were far better than expected today and we had a great couple of trips. This morning there were eight seals hauled out – it’s been a popular spot for them there lately. We then headed a long way south and found two groups of common dolphins feeding with just a few gannets. On the whole it was quiet for seabirds. This afternoon the tide was higher so there were only three seals left on the rocks, but several more in the water, one of whom followed us as we motored slowly past. We found more dolphins very near to where we saw them this morning, only this time they were in quite an interactive mood and they swam with us as we sailed. It was  quite a productive spot out there – we also saw an Arctic skua, a couple of great shearwaters and a very large Portuguese man of war! It’s that time of year…
