Wednesday 7th August

a bird swimming in water next to the ocean
It was a long day with two Ocean Discovery trips and an evening Bay Discovery,  and there was lots of wildlife around to wish Josh happy birthday. There were common dolphins around all day, though we had to go a long way to find them on the afternoon Ocean Discovery. However we did find two groups, after multiple encounters in the morning when we also saw harbour porpoises. This afternoon we spotted an ocean sunfish too. There were several seals hauled on the island over the low tide. The seabird sightings were amazing all day, with countless storm petrels fluttering around with the gannets and there were some Wilson’s and Leach’s petrels there too. Shearwaters included the Manxies of course, and there were some Cory’s too.

Tomorrow looks windy and rough unfortunately so trips will be cancelled, but it looks as though we will be able to get back out on Friday.
