Wednesday 26th March

minke whale

We had a fantastic start to the season on this morning’s trip with not a breath of wind, mirror calm seas and wonderful sightings. After watching the hauled out seals on the island, we headed to where there seemed to be an awful lot of activity further out. After a couple of tantalising glimpses of porpoises (a very distant photo!), the number of feeding seabirds grew and grew and grew – gannets, guillemots, razorbills, Manx shearwaters and thousands of very noisy gulls, contrasting with the peace of the calm day. There is masses of small baitfish down there. No dolphins today, but we were thrilled to see our first minke whale of 2025, on our first trip! It was a great welcome back.
