Thursday 26th March

Two seals resting on rocky shore with mossy background.

It was the first trip of the 2026 season today. Given the screaming wind of the previous two days, sea conditions out there were actually great. It was very cold though! There were several seals hauled out on the island including a couple of juveniles, some adult males and Kelp the female is back after making it another winter! She is now our “longest” seal, in that we have seen her every season since 2008. Lovely Kelp. We then went sailing offshore and headed a long way south to where the swells were wrapping round Land’s End and the shearwaters were hurrying around in the breeze, before coming back to the shelter of the shore. There was not a soul on the beach at Porthcurno, except a couple of over excited dogs tearing around. It was good to be back out on the water – thanks to those who joined us today!
