Sunday 5th April

Happy Easter everyone, and what a beautiful Easter Sunday it was out on the water. Apart from a squally shower first thing we have had sunshine all day, though the leftover swell from last night’s wind meant we shorted the morning trip to two hours rather than three. This meant we could stay in the shelter of the bay and out of the worst of the waves. We saw a few seals round the island who were in the water, as the swell was washing over their usual rocks. We had lovely views of some soaring fulmars, gannets and shearwaters (a first for two keen birdwatchers on board), as well as lots of flapping auks.
This afternoon the swell and wind had dropped enough to do the full 3 hour trip and head a bit further west. The coast and sea were looking beautiful under the blue sky and we found some fins! A group of about eight harbour porpoises down near Porthcurno, which everyone got to see. Sometimes they’re not easy when the swell is rolling. We also saw a good number of seals on the rocks now the tide was lower, and lots more seabirds including sandwich terns.
